Vipers headline festive period action

Uganda Premier League (UPL) leaders Vipers will bid to wrap the first round of the competition on a high when they host Bright Stars in Buikwe in one of eight fixtures lined up on Tuesday.

Coach Edward Golola’s side will also be hoping to cap the first round unbeaten having won nine out of 13 games.

A decision on the controversial 2-1 victory over Bul last Friday, which match was abandoned late on after tear gas was fired to disperse a rowdy crowd that attempted to rough up the referee accusing him of too much added-on time, is still awaiting the referee’s report.

Vipers, however, come up against a wounded Bright Stars (eighth placed) side hurting from 1-0 defeat to SC Villa.

Bright Stars, meanwhile, could still be without the influential duo of goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya, who was as outstanding in goal as devastating from set pieces from where he has already scored one goal before picking up an injury, and striker Hassan Kikoyo.

Vipers lead standings with 31 points, four ahead of SC Villa who travel to Jinja to face newcomers Sadolin Paints.

At Lugogo, reigning champions KCC will hope to return to winning ways after their shock 1-0 defeat to Lweza on Friday. They face second from bottom Entebbe.

Entebbe, however, come into this encounter on the back of a rare 2-1 victory, their second of the season, over bottom side Rwenshama.
