Ssimbwa faces former side

Uganda Premier League (UPL) side SC Villa will look to capitalise on leaders Vipers and second-placed KCC’s inactivity on Friday to close in on the pace setters when they face SC Victoria University at KCCA Stadium.

The 16-time record champions will also hope to return to winning ways after the 1-1 home draw with Simba last Friday.

“We have a chance to go second on the log,” said SC Villa coach Sam Ssimbwa in his pre-match notes, adding, “So that’s what we are targeting.

“We need maximum points to keep us in the chase for the top position. A draw will also push us into second place but that’s not what we are looking at. We are going out for a win.”

Villa are in third position on 23 points, seven behind leaders Vipers and one below KCC having played a game less than the duo’s 12.

As Villa look to continue their title challenge, coach Morley Byekwaso’s SCVU are in struggles of their own.

From 12 games, SCVU have only accrued 13 points and lie 10th in a 16-team league having won just three times, drawn four and lost as many games.

The other three games will see bottom side Rwenshama hope to build on their 3-2 shock victory over URA when they travel to face Soana. Lweza welcome Kira Young at Wankulukuku while Bul entertain Police at Kakindu.
