URA edge out KCC in five goal thriller

Veteran defender Simeon Masaba struck the winner as URA edged KCC 3-2 in a five-goal thriller played out at the Mehta Stadium, Lugazi on Tuesday.

Patrick Ochan and Robert Ssentongo - scoring his eighth of the season, had early on put the tax collectors ahead before Masaba grabbed the winner from a penalty spot.

Brian Umony scored KCC’s two goals, including a late penalty after Habib Kavuma was brought down in the box, to move to seven goals.

The win for coach Alex Isabirye’s URA, who were bouncing back from a shock 3-2 loss to bottom side Rwenshama, moved them one place up to fifth on 20 points.

Defeat for the defending champions, KCC – which was also coach Abdallah Mubiru’s first in three games, saw them stay second on 24 points, six behind leaders Vipers.

The first half was a drab affair with no side breaching each others' defensive lines.

URA first took the lead through Ochan after recess before Umony leveled shortly.

The hosts went ahead again through Ssentongo, who was netting his eighth of the campaign to join SC Villa's Karim Ndugwa on the top scoring charts before Masaba made it 3-1 from the spot.

Umony did grab his seventh of the campaign from the penalty spot after Habib Kavuma had been fouled in the box but URA held on to claim maximum points.
