Vipers edge out SCVU

Uganda Premier League (UPL) pace setters Vipers opened a five-point lead at the summit after edging Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) 1-0 in Buikwe on Friday.

Musa Mulunda struck the only goal of the match in the second half as coach Edward Golola’s men claimed their ninth win in 11 games.

Vipers are now on 29 points, five ahead of second-placed KCC and six adrift of 16-time record champions, SC Villa, who could only draw 1-1 with Simba on the day.

Defeat for coach Morley Byekwaso’s SCVU, who have now lost four, winning three and drawing the others leaves them rooted in ninth with just 13 points.

Vipers alongside SC Villa and KCC have now scored 18 goals apiece, with only URA finding the back of the net four more times.

The victory also meant that Vipers, the one-time league champions four years ago, remain the only unbeaten side in the 16-team league.
