Villa, Vipers in UPL action

Four Uganda Premier League (UPL) games are lined up on Friday but it is log leaders Vipers and third-placed SC Villa expected to capture much attention when round two of Match Day 11 gets underway.

Vipers, one-time league champions four years ago, welcome SC Victoria University to Buikwe knowing that victory will keep them with some breathing space at the summit.

Coach Edward Golola’s men have 26 points after 10 games, while KCC – who will not be in action on the day – have 24 having played a game more. Villa are on 22.

Vipers come into this tie on the back of a hard-fought 3-2 victory over bottom side Rwenshama while SCVU, ninth with 13 points after 10 games, are fresh from a goalless draw with Simba.

On their part, 16-time record champions SC Villa will look to do their job against Simba at their Ssaza Ground in Mityana and hope Vipers falter.

Coach Sam Ssimbwa’s side have dropped just three points at home this season, a 1-0 defeat to traditional rivals KCC.

Simba, 10th with 11 points having won just three of their 10 games, will have to be at their best to pick a result from there.

They especially will have to be at their compact best to stop joint top scorer with seven goals, Karim Ndugwa, who netted a hat-trick against Entebbe in their last outing.

Ali Kimera will start in goal for the first time since Ssimbwa took over after Nicholas Ssebwato got a knock in the rib during Wednesday’s training.

At Lugogo, Fred Kajoba continues the search for his first victory in three games as Bright Stars coach when they host Entebbe.

Entebbe, who have scored the same number of goals as their wins – one; remain coach-less since Matthias Lule quit last Friday. At Bugembe, 11th and 12th placed Lweza and Soana clash looking to better their survival chances.
